The meeting table grounds the setting for discussion.
Lighting is layered to soften rather than dominate.
Artwork adds movement while keeping the atmosphere composed. Nothing here is dramatic. But together, these elements create a space that feels balanced, professional and calm. A calm, grounded space designed to support clarity throughout the working day. This is the General Manager’s private office within our Holborn project, a space designed to support focused individual work, while also accommodating meetings when needed, without compromising its sense of calm. The desk and meeting table coexist naturally within the same room, allowing the space to move effortlessly between concentration and conversation. The round table softens the environment and creates a more open and balanced setting, without the formality of sitting across a desk. Wall panelling defines the meeting area and brings structure and permanence to the space, while allowing the rest of the room to remain open and uncluttered. When an environment feels settled and quietly supportive, it allows the person using it to focus fully on what matters. A closer look at how the Holborn Project collaboration room is used day to day, and some of its details. The details here are subtle, but intentional, from the way the furniture is scaled to how materials sit alongside one another. Rather than a formal meeting room, the space was designed to feel more relaxed, supporting smaller group discussions, collaborative work and flexible hot desking. It’s a room that is used throughout the day for discussions, focused work or simply as a place to sit and work away from the main office.
Those requirements shaped both the layout and the balance of materials throughout the room.
A preserved moss and oxide sound dampening wall were introduced, adding texture and a quiet sense of calm to the space. Design by @mfa_home_design

This collaboration room forms part of the Holborn Project and was created to help teams work productively without noise, distraction, or visual clutter. It’s been lovely to know the client now uses this room day to day for meetings, focused work and quiet conversations. The layout, furniture, lighting, acoustics and materials were carefully brought together so the space feels balanced, comfortable and easy to use. Why nature matters in the workplace. Part of the ongoing Holborn project, the open-plan workspace.
Here, biophilic design was used to soften the environment, introduce subtle zoning and bring a sense of calm into a busy working setting.
Thoughtfully placed greenery helps reduce visual fatigue, support focus and make open plan spaces feel more balanced and comfortable.
In this area, existing joinery was already performing well, so it was carefully retained and refined, allowing investment to be directed where it matters most. A quiet approach to workplace design. What if the most important room in the office wasn’t a meeting room? The dining area of our Holborn Project was designed as a calm pause within a commercial office, not simply somewhere to eat, but somewhere people can pause, connect and reset during the working day. The bespoke leather upholstered banquette seating wraps the room to create a sense of enclosure, enhancing comfort and encouraging relaxed conversation, while soft neutral chairs and a bespoke dark wood tone table introduce contrast without visual noise. A metal screen defines the area without closing it off, allowing light to flow while subtly zoning the space. Layered planting and a gentle pendant lighting complete the setting, reinforcing a biophilic approach and a sense of ease.
Rather than treating it as a secondary space, the focus was on comfort, proportion and materials. In a commercial environment, spaces like this matter, they support wellbeing, encourage connection and allow people to step away from their desks without stepping out of focus. The reception was designed to offer a soft, welcoming pause before the rhythm of the workday takes over, with each element chosen to support a quiet atmosphere and create a sense of ease. Tactile upholstery in warm neutral tones bring comfort and softness to the space, while the geometric screens introduce gentle structure without feeling heavy. Every piece of wood has something to teach us, if we look carefully. I had the pleasure of joining a wood workshop @lethenty_cabinetmakers , where Graeme shared his incredible knowledge of timber. From grown rings to grain variations, tensions on wood, knots and natural imperfections, each board revealed a different character.
A reminder that wood is never just a material, but history in our hands. Graeme’s knowledge and ability to explain the life of timber was genuinely impressive and it was a privilege to learn from him. Workshops like this remind me that great design doesn’t begin with moodboards or finishes, but it begins with understanding the materials we work with. What if your office made you want to stay longer? Most offices are built to be functional.
We are designing this one to make people want to be here and feel better while they are. For our Holborn Project in Aberdeen, the goal is to support the wellbeing and performance of the people who use it every day. We are using a luxury palette of warm walnut wood, black and greige for a professional tone, bronze accents, alabaster stone to soften the mood and fresh green to connect with nature. The green is more than just a colour. It is part of a biophilic design approach, intentionally bringing natural elements into the space to:
- Improve overall wellbeing and mood.
- Boost creativity and focus, leading to better problem solving.
- Increase productivity.
- Supports staff by creating a space people genuinely enjoy. Interior design shapes how a space feels and how people feel in it. That is why every detail here is intentional. Because the best workplaces don’t just look good or functional well, they actively support the people in them. That is the goal for our Holborn Project: Confidence, professional, timeless, welcoming and built to bring out the best in those who walk through its doors.
